Osteopathy addresses the body as a whole while focussing on the painful area, but always aims to restore as much movement and comfort throughout the entire body. Either through movement, massage, stretching techniques (and many more) or exercises addressing strength & often general advice on how to reduce stresses affecting recovery and comfort.

Osteopathy excels at helping with both new pain presentations, chronic pain but also in maintaining a healthy body to prevent pain before it occurs.

Ayurveda

I have been an osteopath since 2015 but my fascination with the way the body works goes back much further. I have been driven by my own struggle with keeping my body working well, having had various surgeries and complications. I discovered Tai Chi and Martial Arts and because I gained a thorough understanding of biomechanics I was inspired to train as an Osteopath.

Alongside Osteopathy I also qualified as a Martial Arts coach and Tui Na Massage Practitioner.

I have found these fit together brilliantly and they support my absolute belief that everyone can improve their posture and movement. My aim is for you to achieve more than just temporary relief; it is to help you find what causes and contributes to your problem and to find solutions, unique to you, that you can take away to continue to help yourself.

The way I see it, prevention is better than cure.

To support you in this process I have recorded and developed a programme of exercises that are both gentle yet powerfully effective.

Kelly qualified from King’s College London with a BSc (Hons) degree in Physiotherapy in 1999. Since then she has worked in both NHS and private practices, and has developed her treatment skills to include both manual and exercise therapy. This provides patients with a well-rounded approach to pain relief, recovery and injury prevention.

Kelly believes that treatment works best as a collaboration between therapist and patient to achieve that individual’s goal, whether it be to return to work, sport or to run around after the kids. Her clinical background includes the treatment of a wide range of conditions including neck, back and joint pains; sports injuries; rehabilitation post musculoskeletal surgery and the treatment of complaints such as arthritis. Kelly also has a special interest in treating upper limb restrictions following breast cancer treatment and has completed a number of courses in that area including a breast cancer care Masters module at the Royal Marsden Hospital, London.

What happens when I see a Physiotherapist?

On your first appointment a case history will be taken, and a physical assessment performed. As part of the physical examination, you may be asked to remove some outer clothing and do a few simple movements. This will provide an overall impression of your posture and build and highlight areas of stiffness and pain. After a thorough assessment, the Physiotherapist will explain what he or she believes to be causing your symptoms and will proceed to your first treatment. Problems that have been going on for several months or years are likely to need a series of treatments over several weeks, whereas those which have just developed can often be resolved within a few sessions.

Outside of work Kelly has a young family so understands the time constraints we can all face when seeking out treatment and looking after ourselves. Kelly likes to keep fit with Pilates and is a keen dancer.

Registered Osteopath

In practice 23 years

Speciality – Voice and Swallowing Difficulties

I qualified in 2000 with a First Class Honours Degree and a Diploma in Naturopathy at the British College of Osteopathic Medicine, and have worked at The Complementary Health Centre for 22years.

Prior to that I was a Registered Nurse at the Royal London Hospital. I was attracted by the holistic approach of osteopathy after being part of the work force in orthodox medicine in which patient care is compartmentalised.

I welcome patients of all ages from school-aged children to the elderly.

In addition to those with musculoskeletal pain I see people with digestive problems, pregnant women, post-operative patients following joint surgery, and those who have been hospitalised for a long time and have stiff or weak muscles as a result of inactivity. More recently the latter includes patients who were hospitalised with Covid, and have multiple symptoms arising from being in a coma and intubated. I also welcome those with no specific problems, but who experience an all pervasive feeling of fatigue and physical discomfort as a result of stress, poor posture and lack of exercise.

My philosophy is where there is life there is hope, and unless deemed to be unsafe, osteopathic treatment can nearly always bring about an improved sense of well being and increased ease of movement as in the case of chronic conditions such as osteoarthritis and Parkinson’s disease where there is no fundamental cure.

I have never lost the thrill of hearing a patient say how much better they feel, sometimes after just one or two sessions!

Voice and Swallowing Difficulties

I specialise in voice and swallowing problems associated with tight musculature around the larynx, and beyond. Patients include singers, actors, teachers, public speakers, those who have had surgery of the throat and certain throat pathologies. Common symptoms are a croaky voice, loss of voice, a ‘lump in the throat’, effortful swallowing, and for singers, pitch breaks, unreliable top notes and loss of resonance.

I am a member of the Voice Clinic Team at Lewisham Hospital where I have gained much experience working alongside ENT surgeons, speech therapists and a vocal rehabilitation coach.

Outside of work I love to be in the great outdoors, walking and swimming, and I’m rarely happier than when shovelling manure on my allotment!

I am a Sports Massage Therapist and Personal Trainer with a passion for physical challenges. From marathons to cycling, sprinting, and yoga, I’ve experienced first hand how hard work and dedication transform the body. Ten years ago, I struggled to walk a mile—today, I’m helping others overcome their own physical barriers to achieve their goals.

Having worked in the fitness industry for over three years, I’m deeply fascinated by how the body moves and heals. I believe in a holistic approach to fitness, where body, mind, and spirit work in harmony. A healthy, well-maintained body fosters a clear mind, and a positive mindset fuels the drive to maintain good health. It’s a cyclical relationship—what we eat, think, see, hear, and say all affect how we feel and act. By improving one area, we positively impact the others, helping to create a balanced, healthier life.

In my work, I see first hand how important it is to listen to the body. The more in tune we are with our physical state, the more effectively we can prevent injuries and optimize recovery. This is where massage therapy plays a crucial role. By incorporating regular therapy into a fitness routine, clients not only recover faster but also reduce the risk of injury.

I tailor each therapy session to the individual’s specific needs, whether they’re an elite athlete or someone just starting out. For older clients, recovery may take longer, so massage becomes even more vital. Through consistent therapy, clients develop greater body awareness, enabling them to recognize when they need recovery and when they’re ready to push harder. This awareness is essential for sustained progress in both fitness and overall well-being.

Change starts from within, and I am here to guide you on that journey. Whether you’re looking to improve your fitness or recover from an injury, I’ll be honoured to help you achieve your goals and live a more balanced life!

I strongly believe that even small nutritional changes can have a significant positive impact on our health. However, it’s not a ‘quick fix’, it’s a lifestyle change that has to be embedded into our daily routine to be sustainable and effective.

The Nutritional programmes that I create for each client is tailored to their individual needs, by identifying the required changes and building those changes into their daily routine. I may also recommend functional testing based on the symptoms the client has.

I also feel very passionate about educating my clients along the way as I strongly believe that knowledge is the key to the development of the long-term healthy habits.

Sarah is a professional holistic reflexologist who the Association of Reflexologists has recently awarded a “lifetime” membership for 30 years of dedicated service in the field. Along with Holistic Reflexology/ Fertility / Ayurvedic treatments and Menopause, she is currently training to become a Sports Injury Therapist. Her journey into complementary therapy began after a serious horse-riding accident that left her with a jarred spine. Medical professionals advised her to avoid riding and driving until further notice. Struggling to find effective treatment for her condition, Sarah was prompted to explore complementary therapy, a concept that was rare and largely unknown at the time. Eighteen months later, after completing her studies, her curiosity led her to Egypt, where she conducted extensive research on reflexology. Although it was a challenging mission in 1997, the experience helped her develop the confidence to create a unique treatment routine. With the knowledge and enthusiasm of a newly qualified practitioner, she actively promoted well-being at local schools, beauty salons, hospitals, and the Health Trade Show in Earls Court. Subsequently, a significant change in her life took Sarah to Boulder, Colorado, where she had the opportunity to teach and train at the Adult Learning Centre. In the following years, she continued to expand her knowledge and skill set by certifying in Hot Stone Massage, Indian Head Massage, and Thai Foot Manipulation. She also developed a keen interest in reproduction and fertility, specialising in the reflex points of the feet related to these areas. Sarah further qualified in Ayurveda Pregnancy Massage to assist her pregnant clients during their third trimester and to help induce labour for those who wish to avoid medical induction. Through her own experiences and those of her clients, Sarah has consistently observed the benefits of incorporating complementary therapy into daily life, believing that prevention has often been the key to addressing many disorders. She possesses the knowledge and skills to tailor treatments to meet her clients’ needs on any given day.

My yearning to be a doctor/surgeon was changed after a chance visit to The British School of Osteopathy in the early 70s. I graduated from the BSO in 1976 and went on to practice in central London, Kent, Buckinghamshire and Cambridge over the next 10 years . I returned to BSO as a Clinical tutor from 1977-1982.

I have been working at The Complementary Health Centre in Lee as an Osteopath for 35 years and have also taught Pilates/ Remedial exercise classes in our studio for 26 years. My passion for exercise and prevention of injury has helped patients and non-patients to improve their Posture, strength and flexibility and likelihood of symptoms recurring. An interest in Dance led to me working at The Urdang Ballet School (1986-1988) and at Laban School of Dance (2011-2013) where I was assessing young dancers and where I developed a love of analysis of foot mechanics and how crucial this is to general posture.

I began working within the NHS 6 years ago with The Lewisham Hospital Voice Clinic as part of a small team of ENT Surgeons and Speech therapists . Osteopathic treatment of the neck and larynx can help with vocal dysfunction or following surgery on the larynx. Singers, actors, teachers, anyone with speech or swallowing problems can benefit from laryngeal osteopathy.

Patients come for treatment with a wide variety of Musculo/Skeletal complaints. Acute and chronic joint injuries, degenerative and more acute disc problems and Post Surgery Rehabilitation ie joint Replacement . Being able to assess, diagnose and treat people holistically has and continues to be immensely rewarding .Prevention of further injury via gentle Pilates and postural awareness is also a major part of my treatment.

As I have lived in Blackheath for 35 years I have established good links in the community and with GPs and local consultants. My interests are walking and gardening.
